Rule Change: The Rapid Proliferation of Climate Regulations

During Climate Week 2021, Trysha Daskam, Head of Silver’s ESG Strategy, participated in The Great Repricing, an On Demand Summit hosted by Gitterman Asset Management.

Over the last few years, the regulatory and policy landscape related to climate change has shifted significantly. Ms. Daskam’s panel – Rule Change: The Rapid Proliferation of Climate Regulations – covered everything financial services participants need to know about climate change in order to be educated and prepared. On the federal side, the SEC is undertaking disclosure reviews and has issued new enforcement measures while the White House has released a number of climate-related executive orders. However, actions from individual states and international jurisdictions, such as the E.U., are reverberating beyond their regulatory borders, impacting U.S. firms. Frameworks and collaborative initiatives such as the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) are gaining rapid traction and “soft regulation” from ESG ratings agencies are increasingly affecting how assets are valued. The session, which can be watched On Demand Here, covers how policy and regulation is changing behavior across governments, financial services, and companies more broadly, and how this will impact investment decision-making over the coming months and years.
